ABOUT

Shu-Ling Chua 蔡淑羚 is a Melbourne-based essayist, poet and zine-maker. Her essay collection, Echoes, jointly won the Small Press Network Book of the Year Award. She is working on a follow-up on image, longing, and the boundaries between private and public.

In taking a cinematic approach to writing, Shu-Ling captures oft-overlooked details. Elegant and sensual, her prose is delicate but penetrating, sentimental yet pragmatic. She encourages readers to appreciate unexpected beauty, small joys and quiet epiphanies.

Shu-Ling was shortlisted for the 2021 Deakin University Nonfiction Prize and 2018 Woollahra Digital Literary Award, highly commended for the 2017 Feminartsy Memoir Prize and selected for the 2015 HARDCOPY manuscript development programHer work has appeared in Peril Magazine, MeanjinAsian American Writers' Workshop and elsewhere.

Echoes is on the reading list for a creative writing course at the University of New South Wales and received excellent reviews in Mascara Literary Review, Portside Review, Book+PublishingAniko Press, and Liminal Review of Books. The second edition is available.

.....

I started this blog to keep in touch while on exchange in Lund, Sweden. 2011. You can read my first post here.

(a lifetime ago...)

I picked it up again when I moved to Canberra. 2013.

So, what is this blog?

It's the story of discovering life through my twenties and thirties.

A collection of memories and musings.

Evolving. Still.
